P.S.H.E

What do we want our P.S.H.E curriculum to achieve?

- Enable our pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes to keep themselves healthy, safe and thrive.

- Support our pupils to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.

- Assist the pupils to really know and value who they are and understand how they relate to other people.

How do we fulfil this?

Our whole school values thread through all our PSHE learning, alongside using the Jigsaw Curriculum for our teaching.

Our school values are:

Care,  Respect,  Honesty,  Resilience, Co-operation, Forgiveness

The Jigsaw Curriculum is split into six puzzle pieces throughout the year.  Jigsaw uses the spiral curriculum approach, building upon the learning at each stage and age.

Within these areas, these PSHE themes are covered:

1. Being Me in My World:   Understanding my place in the class, school and global community.

2.  Celebrating Difference:  Anti-bullying (including cyber-bullying) and diversity

3.  Dreams and Goals:  Goal setting, aspirations for yourself, the world and importance of working together.

4.  Healthy Me:  Drug and alcohol education, healthy lifestyle choices, self-esteem and confidence (mental health)

5.  Relationships:  Understanding friendship, family and other relationships, conflict resolution and communication skills

6.  Changing me:  Age appropriate sex and relationships education in the context of coping positively with change.

Within our school we also follow the Taking Care programme to teach children protective behaviours to help them keep safe.  It teaches the children to understand safe places, safe feelings, know their own early warning signs, use the correct terminology for body parts and know who to speak to if they feel worried or unsafe.

We also cover a wider range of safety and citizenship topics through our Assembly programme and partnerships with local initiatives e.g. Warwickshire Active Travel for road and scooter safety.

We are committed to supporting the emotional health and wellbeing of our pupils, staff and families and believe in a whole school approach to achieve this.  We have strong links with the local Mental Health in Schools Team (MHST) and provide bespoke workshops to support our PSHE programme within school.
