Lunches and snacks

School Lunches

All meals are FREE.  Our school meals are cooked on the premises and provide a healthy and nutritious meal. They are tasty and well balanced, so we encourage children to try the menu.  However, they may bring a packed lunch on a day they do not like any of the 3 choices on offer.

To place an order for your child's school lunch, please review the menu choices, ideally with your child, and return a completed meal order form to the school office, in advance of taking a meal.  You can contact the office to change an order up until 10am each day

Contact: admin2420@welearn365.com

We operate a three colour wristband system: red, green or brown (jacket potato), which allows the children to be given the corresponding band to match their choice of meal each day.

A copy of our latest menu is below and paper copies are outside the school office.

A paper copy is available from the school office.

Universal Free School Meals (UFSM)

All Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils in state-funded schools have free school meals. This is known as “universal entitlement”. It was introduced by the Government in September 2014 with the aim to improve academic attainment and save families money.  All pupils at Bilton Infant School receive a UFSM.

Free School Meals (FSM)

Free School Meals (FSM) Families who receive the following benefits are eligible for Free School Meals:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of state Pension Credit
  • Universal Credit (with an annual income of less than £7,400)
  • Families who are awarded Child Tax Credit and have an annual income assessed by HMRC to be no more than £16,190, providing there is no entitlement to Working Tax Credit (unless in respect of a 4-week 'run-on')

Families who meet this criteria can register for Free School Meals (FSM) using the link below.

It is not the same as Universal Free School Meals (UFSM).  If you are eligible, please apply, even if your child does not want to eat the free meal.

Why?

  • Your child will be provided with FSM for six years, meaning you will not pay for a meal even in Junior / Primary school.

  • Your family will be able to access wider opportunities e.g. holiday clubs.

  • School receives additional funds used to target valuable support for pupils.

More information about how we use this funding is available here:

Specific Dietary Requirements

The kitchen staff are happy to cater for individual dietary requirements.  If your child has a recognised food allergy for which they are seen by a specialist and they require adjustments to our menu, please ask the office and we can arrange a meeting with our cook and / or Educaterers.

Please ensure the school office is also informed of any dietary requirements/allergies and subsequent changes that take place.

In order to safeguard children with food allergies the following are actively discouraged in children's lunchboxes:

                                                                                       nuts                          kiwi fruit

Snacks

Children are eligible for FREE fruit or vegetable snacks each day.  That provides 1 of their 5 A Day portions, and helps to increase awareness of the importance of eating fruit and vegetables.  Depending on the season, there's a choice.

Drinking

Children are actively encouraged to bring a water bottle into school to ensure they regularly drink throughout the day.

Please ensure this has water in it at the start of each day.

It can be topped up throughout the day when necessary.

A choice of  squash or water is available for those taking a school meal.

Please do not send in fizzy drinks or sugar based squash drinks.
